You might have seen the saying –

“We don’t need a handful of people doing Zero Waste perfectly,

we need millions of people doing it imperfectly”

I wholeheartedly agree with this. It is really hard to be perfect 😃 In fact it is damn near impossible and we all spend way too much time beating ourselves up for our imperfections. Because we fail sometimes, doesn’t mean that the power we have together is not making a world of difference.

Think what this People Power has achieved already!

Plastic Bags banned in Australian supermarkets

We did that together. And the economy didn’t stop because we had to learn to bring a reusable carry bag. So give yourself a pat on the back.✋

Micro-beads have been virtually phased out of all cosmetics and personal care products

This was an industry voluntary agreement with the government but we all know that without your voice this would not have happened. A hi-five to you all.🙋‍♀️

Plastic Straws on the decline

The worldwide movement to ban plastic straws has seen many shops, supermarkets and bars remove them voluntarily in Australia. While other countries have taken more decisive action including the UK government banning plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton buds as of April next year, it is still heartening to see positive changes being made here in Australia even without government support.

Some great breaking news while we wrote this story has been that South Australia could be the first state to ban some single-use plastics including straws, cutlery and stirrers when draft legislation is tabled later this year. After a six week consultation period in early 2019, that saw more than 3,500 responses with most in favour of government intervention, the intention is to introduce a bill to Parliament in 2020. Environment Minister David Speirs said “At first, we will look at products including plastic straws, cutlery and stirrers, with items such as takeaway polystyrene containers and cups next”

The Government said a pilot program to establish “plastic-free precincts” would help to refine the policy as well as establishing  a taskforce comprised of industry representatives to “ensure that impacts are mitigated” and that “appropriate time” is given for businesses to transition.

So a big thumbs up for South Australia.👍 Now we just need to convince the rest of Australia that we want this sort of legislation country wide.

Here at ImportAnts we want to encourage even more people to convert to #plasticfree life so we have created a new range of Premium Eco Max Brushes that will be sure to catch the eye of even the most indifferent among us.

We are super excited to be introducing our newest and decidedly best-looking Eco Max Brushes –

The ultimate Bottle Brush – this one is the only, yes only, natural fibre brush that fits easily into the (previously!) tricky to clean narrow-neck drink bottles. The long and supple coconut fibres are able to squeeze into tight spaces and to bounce back to shape to give a thorough clean right into the corners.

The tiger stripe Dish Brush – every home needs a dish brush, make it a plastic free dish brush! Coconut fibre is naturally antibacterial, it makes perfect scrubbing bristles and as fats don’t congeal on coconut fibre it makes a longer lasting brush than plastic.

The twin tiger stripe Pot Scourers – replacing the common green plastic scourer, which with so many used each day worldwide creates an enormous plastic pollution problem. These plastic free pot scourers are handy to use in the kitchen, bathroom, garage, camping, anywhere, anytime you want to scrub something clean.

We will have them on show at the AGHA Gift Fair Stand 908 Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre in August. Limited Stock of them will be arriving in mid-August.

So join us and together we can make a Zero Waste future.
